Today I have discovered a gem of a spa in the lovely Presidio Heights neighborhood. I haven’t had a facial in over a year and my skin desperately needed tender love and care! I wanted to get into a new routine and take care of my skin more regularly. Since I had such a great time at the appointment today I could not help but share my new discovery here just a few hours later. May I present to you your new beauty hideout, Skin Remedy.
My experience with Skin Remedy was fantastic right from the start. I love a spa that provides appointments online since inspiration to beautify myself usually strikes me at the latest of the hours! I also enjoy seeing various availability slots to find the one that works best with my schedule. Making an appointment was a breeze with an excellent scheduling system accommodating to my technician preference and supplying a clear description for every treatment. I chose the Repair and Renew Facial, a treatment incorporating a thorough cleanse, pore extraction and microdermabrasion followed by a custom mask. I booked an 80 minute service and could not wait to get there!
As I parked outside on the quaint Sacramento Street I could not help but admire the lovely neighborhood of art galleries, chic boutiques and fine dining. Spruce, one of my favorite dining establishments in the city happens to be right next door to the spa! A lovely sign outside greeted me and pointed in the right direction:
I am glad there was a sign since the place would be easy to miss with a metal gate leading down a passage out back. I actually found the narrow passageway to be pretty cool since it makes the spa feel sort of like a speakeasy, but a beauty speakeasy, a secret hideaway keeping your spa rituals away from the curious eyes.
As you walk down this narrow brick-wall way it feels like a treasure hunt, an hour of relaxation waiting ahead. What awaited was truly incredible – a charming light-filled cottage! I walked in and was swiftly led to the waiting room, rich in organic snacks and lovely skin products to browse.
I did not wait long before my skincare guru, Katie, came out to greet me and led me to a cozy room with a goose down bed, soft and inviting. Katie walked out and I settled in undressing and hopping under the covers. Soft piano music played in the background and I started to doze off when Katie walked back into the room and started the treatment. We briefly discussed my skin regimen and what issues, if any, I wanted to address. My skin was deeply cleansed and two different types of microdermabrasion were applied to rid my skin of dead cells. Katie followed with extractions and custom-blend mask. The products used at Skin Remedy are organic and most are customized and mixed on the spot. For example my mask had raw oatmeal in it that was both calming and purifying. Skin Remedy has its own namesake brand of products with active organic botanicals produced in Sausalito, California. The spa also carries and sells skincare by Dr. A, Sanitas and Binchotan. I think that this was my favorite part about the whole experience – house-made organic products and a level of customization that makes you feel very special!
Katie was wonderful and I felt instantly relaxed, chatting away about recent travel, house pets and hobbies. After the treatment I felt rejuvenated and my skin glowed. I was so smitten by their house brand that I ended up buying an eye lotion, body scrub and body cream. The body scrub and cream are made to order and come unscented allowing you to choose an essential oil to be blended in. I was choosing between gardenia and cucumber and went with the latter. I cannot wait to use them tomorrow morning! All in all, I am in love with this amazing spa and plan to come back in a few months. I am also eyeing their facial products so when I run out of my current regimen I would definitely seek Katie’s advice on the new cleanser, toner and moisturizer to acquire!
Thank you, Skin Remedy, and thank you, Katie! I will see you again soon!
