Local Flavor: Best in SF Beauty

TheGlamouristEvery girl knows how important it is to find that one stylist who leaves your tresses beautiful and in-trend with style, a manicurist for the polished digits and cosmetologist for that dewy envy-enticing glow. Best yet to find them and discover that years later they have become more than beauty experts but friends you enjoy chatting up with and trust implicitly. I am one lucky girl in that regard. It took time, patience and plenty of trial and error before I discovered this talented folk in San Francisco. I am not greedy to share so please have a round of applause for the true stars of SF beauty arena:

Archer Salon

Gari James Cuevas

Gari is the king of blondes! For anything from warm caramel luxury of ladies who lunch to low maintenance California-surfer chic, Gari is your man. His talent has taken me from the darkest chocolate to baby blonde without any damage despite the stunning transformation. What I love the most is his gentle approach. I am usually impatient when it comes to my hair and want drastic changes done in one appointment. Gari always explains how the process works and what is the best way to achieve the look gradually without compromising the health of your tresses. Let’s be honest, no matter how beautiful the color is at the end, if your hair is burned, the game is over. Gari also is my go-to for all the coolest happenings in SF and fabulous travel advice. He is an amazing conversationalist and a charming kind man. Even though I am a blonde, I have seen his brunette and red-hair clients and everyone looks polished and gorgeous!

Chris Gaither

A co-owner of Archer Salon with Gari James Cuevas, Chris is an amazing stylist. I have been lucky to have my haircuts with him and they always turned out perfect. And the best – while the haircuts look great when you get them, they also shine as the hair grows out. It is as if he intuitively knows how my hair will fall as it gets longer and styles accordingly to frame my face and consider hair texture for easy styling at home. For me it is an indication of true talent!

Sarah Becker Skincare

Sarah Becker

Sarah Becker is a fairy godmother of beautiful skin! I cannot say enough about her skills and warm personality – I want to shout it from the rooftops! Whenever I see her, I succumb to this overwhelming sense of euphoria and zen. You walk into her sitting area and are immediately greeted with a cup of tea and a small seasonal snack. It is always a surprise of various nuts, dried fruit or chocolate! So lovely! Then you proceed to the next room and climb into an actual bed…a bed! Can you imagine luxuriating under a fluffy down comforter as a french chanson is playing softly in the background and your skin is tended to in every possible way from cleaning and microdermabrasion to soothing tonics and moisturizing masks. The result – glowing skin and lifted spirits!

TnailsTammy Quang

Tammy is a godsend in the city which treats manicures like a conveyer line of get-in and get-out mediocre finger paint. Tammy is an artist. From treating your digits to pure unhurried luxury of scrubs and creams to perfectly shaped and polished nails, Tammy will make you in awe of your beautiful hands and feet. A few hours in her adorable space on Fillmore Street always put a smile on my face as we talk about anything and everything and share many laughs.

Carrie Maxwell

Habit is a wax-only studio that offers waxing and sugaring services to meet all your lady needs. Carrie Maxwell is the owner and my go-to girl for that pain-free brazilian and brow shaping magic. She has impeccable taste and has decorated the studio herself with plenty of wit and design-savvy, incorporating vintage elements, taxidermy and many curious flee-market finds. And the best part – a shot of limoncello or another delicious concoction to ease your nerves! Love it!
